A workspace contains folders and diagrams. The active workspace determines where new files, imported files, templates, and AI-generated diagrams are stored.

Create or import a diagram

You can start in three ways:
  • Select New diagram for a blank canvas.
  • Select AI generate to create a diagram from a prompt.
  • Select Import diagram to upload a .drawio or .xml file.
Imported files must contain a valid draw.io document and be no larger than 5 MB. DiagramAI uses the file name as the initial diagram title.
Import rejects empty files, unsupported extensions, unsafe document markup, and XML that is not a draw.io document.

Use folders

  • Create a folder at the workspace root or inside another folder.
  • Open a folder before creating or importing a diagram to store it there.
  • Use the breadcrumb to return to a parent folder.
  • Deleting a folder moves its diagrams into trash.

Find diagrams

The workspace provides:
  • Search by diagram title
  • Filters for folders and diagram types
  • Sorting by updated time, created time, name, or type
  • Grid and list views
  • Recent for recently opened or edited diagrams
  • Favorites for diagrams you want to reach quickly

Use a template

Open Templates, preview an official template, and select Use template. DiagramAI copies the template into the active workspace so you can edit it without changing the original.

Delete and restore

Deleting a diagram moves it to trash. From trash, you can:
  • Restore one or more diagrams
  • Permanently delete one or more diagrams
Permanent deletion cannot be undone. In team workspaces, only Owners and Admins can permanently delete diagrams.
Files in trash still count toward the workspace file limit. If you reach the limit, restore and keep only the files you need, permanently delete files from trash, or change your plan.
